2 Metres

This project came to fruition during the first lockdown of 2020 but has its roots much further back.

A local art collective, Off the Rails Arthouse, sent round a list of possible topics for a lockdown sketchbook and one, 2 metres, leapt at me immediately. I had had an idea in 2018 for a project in which I restricted the space in which I took photographs. It was 1 metre initially then 2, then 3 but with Covid restrictions, it settled on 2. I  decided that I would take the opportunity to create my own sketchbook using gel printing techniques. I created this into a book with newly found bookbinding skills (!) and added topical headlines to the images I had selected.

I am so pleased with how it has turned out! I do intend to video the sketchbook so it is available here to view but I haven't been able to do that yet. In the meantime, here are the images I  chose for the project. They are macro photographs of items from the places I spent lockdown in. They are all taken within the length of a 2m measuring stick.
